The Safa Masjid is located at a distance of about 2 km towards west from the main town of Ponda, in Shahpur district in Goa. The mosque is considered to be one of the biggest and the most renowned mosques to be found in the region of Ponda taluka. It is one of 27 mosques built by Ibrahim Adil Shan of Bijapur in the year 1560. But some of the historians say that the mosque was not built by Ibrahim. They believe that the mosque was in fact structured by Sultan Ali Adil Shah I since he ruled over the region of Goa since 1557 to 1580.
